Synopsis

Greenwich, Zuidoost-Londen.

Greenwich, Southeast London. The CID discovers something horrible. Five young women, all ritually murdered and dumped on an unused lot near the Millenium Dome. Postmortem examination shows that a strange and repulsive detail connects the victims. The police officers realize that they’re on the trail of the most dangerous type of criminal they know: a sexually-driven serial killer.
Detective Jack Caffrey, young, motivated and fearless, is being tortured by a murder from the past that he might have been able to prevent. Now he’s determined to use every method offered by forensic science to fight crime. But he knows that time is limited and that the chaotic, sadistic murderer will claim his next victim soon.

Full Review

This novel by Hayder will definitely not make it to make it to my favorites list. About 100 pages in, it seems like the story is over. However, it keep dragging on for a while longer, until eventually it comes to a plot twist. In between nothing happens. I considered DNFing this one.

The crimes are terrible and descriptions of the crimes and crime scenes are great (Yes, I like that sort of thing)! The writing isn’t bad neither. However, I felt that most of the story didn’t focus on the crime as much. Instead it seemed to revolve around the private life of the main character, which wasn’t interesting in the least.

I’ve read other works by Hayder that I thoroughly enjoyed. This one however, isn’t one of those.
