As you probably already know, about three weeks ago I went to a book fair when I was staying with my parents. Now, the time has come to tell you a bit more about this book fair.
This book fair* only has second hand books that have been donated to them. During the last full weekend of January, the fair is held. The money made during this book fair all goes to three different charities, all for homeless people.
Firstly, there is de Wonne in Enschede*: a place for homeless people to live for a while. No matter why they are currently homeless, be it financial reasons, marital issues; whether they are refugees or anything else. They can find shelter here.
Secondly, they support Casa do Menino*. A home for children in Campina Grande, Brasil, where they receive everything they need. From food to education.
Lastly, the money raised goes to the Vincentius Vereniging* in Glanerbrug (Enschede). For all people in need.
Now, to the books I bought: in total I acquired 7 books, costing me a total of €9,50. A bargain, right?
1. The War of the Worlds – H. G. Wells (€1.50)
2. Stupid White Men – Micheal Moore (€1.00)
3. One Flew over the Cuckoo’s Nest – Ken Kesey (€1.00)
4. The Alchemist – Paulo Coelho (€2.00)
5. The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas – John Boyne (€1.00)
6. Symboliek van Sprookjes – J. F. Croes – van Delden (€0.50)
7. De Stam van de Holebeer – Jean M. Auel (€2.50)
I wish I could’ve taken some more pictures while I was there, but I didn’t want to bother all the people that were walking around trying to find the perfect little gem in the mess of books. So, there’s really only a picture of me that my mom took.
For all the Dutchies that live in the area: the book fair next year will be on the 27-29th of January. Every year they have about 20,000 books, so it’s definitely worth it!
So, anyone else all about the book fairs? If you know of any other ones, let me know in the comments!
