Sunday Post #41 -Work, work, work.

The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimba, the Caffeinated Book Reviewer. This way, I can tell you a little about my week and sum up what happened on the blog and everything else that I find interesting.

Personal

This week has still been really busy. My direct colleague is on holiday and I’ve got to make sure the department runs smoothly now. Not easy, since I’ve only worked a couple weeks so far. Luckily there are a lot of other colleagues who are happy to help out, making it a little easier.

I feel like I might finally have a little time to really work on my blog again. Hopefully you’ll all be getting replies to all the messages you left pretty soon.

Plan for today: write a couple of review, write some of the blog posts I’ll be posting next week. And, hopefully also write some posts for the weeks following, so that I’ll have something to post if I run out of time again (which is bound to happen).

Next weekend, I’ll be going to the Deventer Boekenmarkt again. I’m hoping for a great haul from there. So, fingers crossed.

Have a great week!

Ps. I’ve been watching too many episodes of Gilmore Girls, so I haven’t had time to read. It’s been ages since I’ve seen any of these episodes. I love it!

The Sunday Post #40 – Bye, bye, Scotland

Personal

This week was all about getting back to work. A little stressful, but a lot of fun. A possibly strange way to describe what I do, but I enjoy it.

Of course, the week before, we traveled the north coast of Scotland and stayed in some great (and one ok-ish) B&B. I’m glad to be home again though, and to be sleeping in my own bed.

Just a short update today, because I’m still too tired to write proper sentences. Hopefully next week will be better, because I really need to start writing some new blog posts, or you’ll have nothing to read next week.

Happy reading! Let me know how July has treated you so far.

Personal

I’ve seen so many things already, during this one week in Scotland. I don’t even know where to start. I’ll be writing some longer posts with more details about all my experiences and adventures. So far though, I’ve been Wigtown, Scotland’s National Book Town, I’ve walked to the top of a mountain, I went shopping in Glasgow, and saw the biggest bookstore Scotland has to offer. And that’s just the beginning.

My book-experiment, where people everywhere I go sign my book, is going pretty well, though most people seem to go for the front page. Maybe it’s because there’s plenty of space there, or maybe because they’re reluctant to write through the rest of the book. No idea, but since I’ve been using chapters to keep track of the days we spend here, the whole book is going to be written on pretty soon anyway. It looks great!

I’m hoping to write some more posts about some of the separate bookshops I visited here in Scotland so far, or maybe something else for next week, but so far there’s only been a review scheduled, so I hope you won’t blame me if I can’t get anymore posts out.

Especially, since the most exciting part of the journey is about to begin: we’re going on a roadtrip through the northern parts of Scotland! Starting today! So, I might be out of Internet, or just not have time. I’ll be sure to let you know all about it afterwards though.

Happy reading!

Scotland is just as advertised: beautiful and rainy. Haha, the weather should be getting better by Tuesday. That didn’t stop us from driving around and going to the beach this morning.

I’ll be mostly enjoying my time here, and not looking at the blog very often. I promise to reply to all you comments and messages once I get back to Germany in two weeks. It might be a while, but I will answer!

As you may have noticed, even this Sunday Post is late. Sure, it’s still Sunday here, but already in the evening. Usually, my posts are not this late. You can still expect some posts from me, because I do want to upload some things, and I’ve already scheduled a couple of things in advance!

I’ve been trying to catch up a bit with my Goodreads goal, by reading a bunch of Dutch YA books. Plus, we’ve brought a load of audioBooks with us to Scotland, for those long drives along the coast and to the highlands. We’ve already finished one just coming here.

Happy reading!

Sunday Post #37 – I’ll get the hang of this blogging/job thing one day!

Wow, jobs take away a lot of free time! As you may have noticed, I only had time to reply to all your comments yesterday and today. I actually really like my job, so I think in a little while I’ll be used to the schedule and can take some time at night to do some blogging again.

We had a pretty bad storm on Friday, and it was still really windy and rainy yesterday. I didn’t see much of it, since I was still at work, and where I was, there wasn’t very much going on. It was still stormy, but not nearly as bad as it was at home. The boyfriend had to save all of the plants and the curtains. One of the curtain rails actually got ripped off, and apparently some plant pots already started moving around, so he had to take them inside (or move them really close to the wall). I only experienced the annoyance of having to wait at work after I was done working, and then of having to take a pretty long detour because of blocked roads (by fallen trees).

I did read a bit more this week. I’m trying not to get too far behind on my challenge, so I read a bunch of Dutch YA books that I still had standing around, but never read. They’re relatively short, and easy to read. So even when I just read after work, I can finish them in a day or two.

How was your week? Any bad storms where you live?

Last Wednesday I started by new job in a forensic psychiatric hospital. It finally feels like I’ve gotten to where I wanted to be. Everyone has been extremely nice. I’ve gotten to a station where for a while they didn’t have their own psychologist, so there’s several things that need to be taken care of, but it all seems to be going well.

I’ve been so busy, and tired, and bingwatching Netflix that I haven’t even finished a book this week! Then again, I did finish watching the first season of Jane the Virgin and the first new episodes of Orange is the New Black. So, you know. That’s got to count for something right?

Sunday Post #35 – Everything went really fast

Personal

Suddenly, everything went really fast. This Friday I got a call from the institution telling me they had all the papers they needed (i.e. the police check) and I could come sign my contract next week and start the 15th: that’s this Wednesday! All of a sudden I have a job! And can start immediately!

Luckily I can ease into it, because I already have my first holidays after two weeks. Due to the fact that vacation to Scotland was already booked.

On top of that, my boyfriend went really fast. Literally: he had a bike race. I stood just 100 meters from the start and didn’t even spot him flying by. There were too many other people doing the same thing. Right now, I’m in our hotel in Cologne, waiting for him to get back, using my time to write some blog post. Or at least, this one, and then some more reading. The weather isn’t very good and most shops are closed on Sundays, so there isn’t much use going into town. We already did that yesterday.

Of course, the only thing I wanted to buy: a bar of shampoo at Lush, was sold to me by a Dutch guy working in the store there. There is no getting away from your fellow Dutchmen.

Apart from that, I made a new plant pot, with an old plastic tub and a little bit of the curtains I had left from outside. Now, my tomato plant can grow a bit more.

That’s it for this week. I hope you all had a great week too! Happy reading!

Ps. that picture is from the hotel ‘library’; in the afternoon there’s even snacks there and coffee and tea, for when you just want to hang out!
